New T-shirts

Thursday night we found reason to make our own shirts! Thursday was Will’s birthday and his brother, Jamie gave him a card that said he was a great uncle… Will’s going to be an uncle!! I’m going to be an aunt. We were all so excited that Whitney is expecting and the two of us have already started our planning of how we want to dress this kid. They’ll find out if it’s a boy or girl Mid-June so once that fact is known.. it’s on. I’ll be buying baby stuff non-stop. I’ve never been an aunt and I’m just so stoked.

Friday while I was out getting a few things done I bought materials for brand-new shirts. I purchased the actual shirts from Target at bargain prices and I purchased iron-on letters at Michael’s. Will’s is solid green with black letters simply saying, “uncle skrill”. Now, this comes from a nickname he was given when he was younger by a close friend he played music with. My shirt is pink and white with green letters stating, “aunt b.a.” I don’t know if I actualy want to be called ‘aunt b.a.’ beause for some reason I’m not sure if I like the sound of it. So, I think I’ve settled on BB. I have an aunt Karen whom I’ve always referred to as, “KK”… not sure why but that’s what I’ve always known her as.

Check out our shirts and how excited we are to sport them.

Did I mention Will and I have yet to turn on our air conditioning?? Lastnight I think it got close to eighty degrees in this place. Whew… it’s warm but we’re holding out. Gotta lower that bill and get the discount. We’ve actually gotten discounts when the power usage goes down from bill to bill. Cross your fingers and hope it’s all worth it!

In Working Order

Here is a picture of Scooter that I forgot to post last time. Isn’t he just the cutest thing?

We really enjoy having him around. Especially during thunderstorms; he is terrified of storms and will hide anywhere to feel safe. It’s actually very entertaining.

Yesterday I went to the gym at my complex and on the way back home I decided to stop and let them know some of our things here are broken. Nothing has ever been fixed because apparently they never had a key…. hello, anyone else worried that the complex LOST our house key? Anyway, the maintenance guy came over quickly since I was home and he inspected the garbage disposal and the broken laundry door. I actually broke the door knob off the door the other night because I was trying to pull the door open. They’re those stupid pop doors that just open without turning the knob. When he inspected the disposal he almost vomited at the smell. Did I mention our disposal hasn’t worked since November?? That didn’t stop me from washing large chucks of uncooked chicken and things down the drain.

So an hour later I had a new door knob and brand new disposal.. yay! Now I can go give them our move-out notice and pray we get the okay to move into the other complex. I absolutely hate moving more than anything but it’s time we get some more space and I’m actually excited about it if everything works out. I’ll let you know how it goes!

So…

Filed under: Uncategorized — bahughes @ 9:12 pm

Today isn’t really a huge day or anything but it’s better than yesterday and I feel like there’s a lot going on which can be good. I got up super early and went to Middle Creek High School again to watch a friend of mine speak to students about abstinence. Today was the second day of presentation for her and it was great. The way these kids are dying to hear what she’s offering is so inspirational. It seems like some of these kids are already struggling with some decisions they’ve made and the hope in their faces when they hear that there’s another option… it’s so amazing. Their eyes kind of light up and you can just see the thought churning around in their sweet little brains. Oh, if only everyone could hear this message before the world gets them thinking other things… so many people would have much better stories.

Ok so I’ve been hanging out in high school the past two days… kinda crazy but very much enjoyed. It really has made me realize how in love I am with Will. I know, I know I’m not normally so sappy but seriously, when I was making the worst mistakes of my life Will stood by, prayed for me, and was my best friend. To find such an honorable guy after some jerks was very refreshing and still is. I love the way he has always loved me. *sigh* :)

On the other hand, Scooter has been hanging out with me when I’m home. Will has made him a tent on the loveseat and he absolutely loves it. He rarely comes out… he just loves sleeping all day in there. It’s really cute when I come home and peek in there to see his tiny squinty eyes and itty bitty nose. Can you imagine how we’ll be when we have kids! hahah! We’re so in love with this cat.

Right now I just absolutely love my life and can’t wait to find out what God has planned for us. I mean, really… I’m not working but I’m finding out more about myself than any job has ever taught me; I am becoming more and more thankful for the people around me and the new friendships that are developing; there is hope in my family which is always great; and I’m just learning so much about my Savior and what He has done for me. Oh, I’m just elated.

I’m going to leave at that. Hope everyone has a good evening. Give me a call if you feel like it. Peace out.

Chicago

Filed under: Uncategorized — bahughes @ 2:43 pm

For those of you who may not know, last week I spent a few days with my mom in Chicago. This was my second time to the windy city and this time was much different than the first. About four or five years ago my dad, my brother, and I met my mom up there for Thanksgiving because this is where she was stationed when flying. We stayed in her tiny apartment, slept on the floor, froze to death any time we stepped foot outside, and we returned after only two days or so. But last week I met my mom at the airport, and she worked during the days until 3:00 or so then we explored the city.

One of our favorite places was the Bubble. It’s this strange sculpture in the middle of Milennium Park and it looks like the entire skyline is behind you when really, it’s just a mirrored sculpture. My mom thought the pictures were hilarious because the skyline bends and sometimes you can’t tell it’s a bubble, to her it just seemed like a crooked skyline.

Our other favorite place was the Drake Hotel. We didn’t actually stay in this fancy place but we went inside and played in the lobby every evening I was there. We would walk the entire length of Michigan Ave just to wander around and see the chandeliers, imagining we had some big ball to get to. I mean, honestly, it would have been amazing to live in that time perioud where the women wore hoop skirts daily and men were mannerly with top-hats. :)

The last adventure we had was finding the Anthropologie store. This is my favorite place to shop although I can only afford the little nick-nacks and stuff, not the read clothes. So we caught a bus, rode that for about an hour, walked in the rain with no umbrella, bought an umbrella at Bloomingdales, walked in the rain with the umbrella a few blocks, the finally arrived soaking wet to Anthropologie. We stayed there for about an hour. It was just so cozy and fun… and dry!

So all in all, my mom and I had a great time as usual. We take about one trip together each year and it’s always a blast.  For those of you who live clost to your parents… spend time with them! Enjoy them for who they are and have fun. My mom and I are experts at getting lost and being clumsy but we’re laughing the entire time!

Praise the Lord!!

Ok so it’s been a while but whatever, I’ve had stuff to do. Last week we had a family reunion of sorts due to a death in the family. My awesome uncle David passed due to a brain aneurysm very early Wednesday morning. Thankfully, my dad got to Columbus GA in time to see his baby brother for a few hours before he passed. That’s one thing I know my dad will always appreciate. My uncle went peacefully after a life of struggle on this earth. And I get elated thinking that David is up in Heaven with my grandfather who he hasn’t seen in 17 years!! Father and son are united with our Father God and I’m sure they’re totally psyched.

Will, Eric, and I had an awesome time getting to know the oldest members of our family. All of the living members of my grandmother’s family drove 16 hours straight to be there! Our family consists of Uncle Roland (who loves to ask strange questions about the Bible), Aunt Evelyn (who woke up at 2:00am and got dressed then went back to sleep so all she had to do in the morning was put her shoes on…. hahahaha!!), Aunt Eazelle (blunt and kind of crazy), Uncle Hilt (he should seriously give lessons on how to make the few hairs on your head stand straight up), and last but not least, Uncle Eugene (a professor of philosphy). So needless to say, our family is awesome!!

Anyway, tomorrow is my last day at Marty Allen Photography and I will be doing some traveling, preparing for my future job, and cleaning this apartment!! So keep me in mind and if you want to stop in for lunch just let me know. :)

I’m new at this…

Filed under: Uncategorized — bahughes @ 1:09 am

So this whole blog thing is new to me. I mean, I’ve been reading blogs written by friends for years so I understand the concept but I’ve never had the desire or time to write one. Lucky for you the husband is watching a hockey game which I have no interest in. So I have time!

As a basic introduction for those of you who don’t know me, I married my high school sweetheart last May at Orton Plantation in Wilmington and it was the greatest day of my life so far. Will, myself and our cat Scooter live in a one bedroom apartment in Morrisville and we love it. It’s a little small but we’re very grateful and it’s very cozy. We’re not sure what God has next for us but we are in a major transition phase.

Currently I work for Marty Allen Photograohy in Apex, but I am applying to teach History to high schoolers this fall. I will be taking classes every night this summer (ugh) then teaching full time and taking the classes through Fall and Spring. We don’t really know how we will afford these classes but I’ve decided I need to do something more fulfilling and, I know it will be a ton of work, but I really feel I will be great at teaching.

There is a TON more that I could tell you about that’s going on in my life right now but I’ll save some for later. But that is the general update on my life. Basically, if you read this leave me a note and let me know what you think.  :)
